NR sheep highly resilient in the aftermath of floods

In November 22, we experienced the worst floods in our living history, we had never seen the country that wet, highways flooded, roads washed away, and swamps full to overflowing, no wonder they call this area the Riverina, there were rivers and lakes everywhere.

The picture above is of Browns Creek, it rarely runs, it managed to cut us off from our paddocks and our two neighbours down the road had to boat into their properties, no mean feat considering they have young children at foot.

The leftover lakes have led to paradise for frogs, turtles, and a diverse range of birdlife, our back paddock is currently home to 100's if not 1000's of pelicans, an unusual site on the Hay plains.

Our Merinos have faired very well in the wet weather, a test they don't usually get out here, the high nourishment in the wool has protected them against any water stain, they have proven to be highly resilient in wet and quite frankly soden conditions.

This year we wave goodbye to La Nina and the return of El Nino and the inevitable arrival of drought, the North Run team is working hard to make sure we are prepared.

In the words of Dorothea Mackellar's famous poem, this surely is a sunburnt country of drought and flooding rains.
